TVK 2026

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK, Vijay) emerged as Tamil Nadu's single largest party in the May 2026 Assembly election with 108 seats (results.eci.gov.in/ResultAcGenMay2026). Vijay staked claim to form the government (New Indian Express, 6 May 2026). This is the single Tamil-Nadu-side variable that could shift how the Eelam file is signalled from TN in the current cycle. It does not shift the underlying structural conditions documented on the Delhi Calculus page.

Declared Eelam position — evidenced

Manifesto: 40 points at vijay.com/en/political/manifesto — domestic welfare focus (₹2,500 monthly women's income, farmer loan waivers, health cover). No formal Eelam-statehood plank. No named Sri Lanka Tamil political clause.
September 2025 gesture: Vijay publicly described Nalini Sriharan as having given "motherly love" to Eelam Tamils (NDTV, 20 Sep 2025) — a calculated symbolic move without policy commitment.
Post-election framing: Indian Express opinion (12 May 2026) reads Vijay's Sri Lanka challenge as two-track — fishermen's rights (electorally potent) and ethnic Tamil accountability (symbolically invoked, institutionally cautious). Tamil Guardian (May 2026) advises Eelam Tamils to be "cautious".
Structural position: With 108 seats TVK holds more institutional leverage than NTK ever had. That leverage is exercised inside the constraints of Centre-state relations, coalition arithmetic and UAPA-locked structural conditions. TVK is not a maximalist Eelam party.
