The six channels
- Catholic / Jesuit / CaritasUn-absorbed
Diocese of Jaffna (1849) + Diocese of Mannar; Jesuit Madurai/Chennai Provinces; Bishop Rayappu Joseph's LLRC submission (8 Jan 2011) recording 146,679 Vanni discrepancy; Caritas India–SL cooperation on record; Loyola College Chennai student pipeline. Rome authority, not Chennai.
- Saiva Siddhanta mutt aadheenamUn-absorbed
Dharmapuram (27 Shiva temples) · Thiruvavaduthurai (Thevaram/Tiruvasakam publication) · Kundrakudi Adigal (1925–1995, dialogue with Periyar). Thiruketheeswaram (Mannar) restored by GCAS Mamallapuram — TN state resources used, mutt-network liturgical logic. Gurumahashannidhanam is pre-democratic authority; HR&CE cannot fully colonise it.
- Fisher-parish (Rameswaram–Mannar–Katchatheevu)Partially absorbed
St Anthony's Feast, 14–15 Mar 2025: 9,000 pilgrims (The Sunday Times Colombo, 16 Mar 2025). Rameswaram side: 3,424 applications, 78 mech + 22 country boats, flagged off by Ramanathapuram District Collector (New Indian Express, 15 Mar 2025). Community is occupational × territorial × sacramental. But Katchatheevu sovereignty framing absorbs the pilgrimage into TN electoral triangulation every cycle.
- Music / cinema pre-1983Vestigial
Radio Ceylon centenary Dec 2025 (Frontline). Diaspora nostalgia, not an active production circuit. Ceylon Theatres lineage severed by 1983 Black July.
- Academic-literary networksDiaspora-hosted
Sivathamby (d. 2011) closed the era of scholars personally inhabiting both worlds. Cheran (Windsor), Sivasegaram, Pathmanathan (Peradeniya, 2026 monograph). No bilateral institutional node.
- Temple pilgrimage circuitPolitically capturable
Nallur Kandaswamy, Thirukoneswaram, Munneswaram, Naguleswaram — active. Diaspora funding + HR&CE oversight create state dependencies that make them susceptible to absorption on either side of the strait.
