Andrew Brooks (UNICEF Head of Protection, Sri Lanka) · UNICEF Sri Lanka, via UN News, 27 April 2007
tlte-cite:unicef-srilanka-karuna-statement-2007Editorial gloss
UNICEF's clearest standalone public attribution of child recruitment to the Karuna / TMVP faction. As of the end of March 2007, 'out of the 285 children known to have been recruited as soldiers by the Karuna faction, there were 194 outstanding cases.' Brooks: 'We seriously question whether the Karuna group is acting in good faith. Our supposed cooperation is obscured by the faction's apparent determination to delay, frustrate, and mislead the process to end the use of children as combatants in this country's conflict.'
