Tamil rapper Sangeethsan Ganeskumar ('HipHop Sangee') arrested under PTA §3(g), Kilinochchi — June 2026
tlte-cite:sangeethsan-2026TIER D ONLY — Tier A/B/C VERIFICATION PENDING. Sangeethsan Ganeskumar, Tamil rapper from Kilinochchi (stage name HipHop Sangee), was arrested and remanded under Sri Lanka's Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 48 of 1978 §3(g) on or about 4 June 2026 after Sri Lankan police investigated TikTok videos he uploaded of a musical performance at a temple-festival event in the Chavakachcheri area of Jaffna. He was remanded until 17 June 2026. SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa publicly accused the NPP/JVP government of 'double standards' and 'selective use of the PTA.' Tamil civil society organisations planned a protest in Kilinochchi; cross-party parliamentary concern was recorded. As of this entry no Tier A (UN/OHCHR), Tier B (HRW/Amnesty/ICG/ICJ), or Tier C (ACPR/PEARL/ITJP) body has published a finding on this specific case. TLTE marks the case LIVE TIER D ONLY and explicitly refuses to characterise it as 'confirmed by monitoring bodies' until ACPR, PEARL, HRW, or OHCHR publish. Verification ladder: Tier C if ACPR/PEARL/ITJP publish; Tier B if HRW/Amnesty/ICG/ICJ publish; Tier A if OHCHR or a UN treaty body addresses the case. Per Sunday Times (8 Dec 2024) at least ten people had been arrested under PTA since the NPP government took office, despite NPP pre-election pledges to repeal the Act.
