tlte-cite:pillayan-pararajasingham-indictmentSivanesathurai Chandrakanthan ('Pillayan'), former de facto TMVP commander and later Eastern Province Chief Minister, was indicted in October 2017 as the 3rd Accused in the Batticaloa High Court for the 25 December 2005 assassination of TNA MP Joseph Pararajasingham (St Mary's Cathedral, Batticaloa, Christmas Midnight Mass). Charges under multiple Penal Code sections + Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 48 of 1979. After the Court of Appeal ruled the prosecution's confession evidence inadmissible, the Attorney-General entered nolle prosequi on 11 January 2021 and Judge D.S. Soosaithasan acquitted all five remaining accused on 13 January 2021 — Amnesty described the outcome as 'yet another sorry milestone in the Sri Lankan authorities' continued failure to ensure justice for crimes committed during the armed conflict.'
