tlte-cite:india-uapa-tribunal-2024Editorial gloss
India's UAPA Tribunal in December 2024 confirmed the Ministry of Home Affairs' May 2024 extension of the LTTE ban for a further five years, finding LTTE cadres 'are still active in Tamil Nadu' with attempts to regroup. The original ban (S.O. 765(E)) was imposed in May 1992 following the assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi on 21 May 1991. Carries significant weight in other jurisdictions given the size of the Tamil population in Tamil Nadu and India's intelligence access.
