பெண்களின் தசாப்தம்The Women's Decade
After May 2009 the work of holding the record open passed, in large part, to women — mothers, daughters, sisters of the disappeared, conflict-related sexual-violence survivors, lawyers, monitors, archivists. The chronicle records the work and refuses the photograph.
Since 2010 a continuous protest of mothers and family members of the disappeared has been held, in successive forms and locations, across the north and east. Their figure for the missing exceeds the official OMP register. They do not, in the main, want compensation. They want, in the formulation that recurs in their own statements collected by PEARL and the ITJP, to know. The chronicle records the protest without naming any of its participants and without reproducing any of their photographs.[pearl-disappearanc][itjp-disappeared]
In January 2026 the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights published a report under the title We Lost Everything. The report concerns conflict-related sexual violence in Sri Lanka. Its findings are grave, named in Tier-A language, and on the public record. The chronicle does not reproduce its contents. It cites it, links to it, and routes the reader who has been brought here by their own experience to the bodies — the Global Survivors Fund, the ITJP, PEARL, Adayaalam, the OHCHR — that are equipped to receive what this chronicle is not.[ohchr-we-lost-everything-2026]
A women's council, modelled on the discipline that the women themselves have set, is held within this archive at /magalir-avai. It is a citation-only surface. It does not accept intake. It does not match. It does not name. The reason for these refusals is not bureaucratic. It is that the work of receiving survivor testimony, of safeguarding survivors, of supporting them legally and medically and economically, is work that requires capability this archive does not have and will not, in this era, claim. To pretend otherwise would be to do harm in the name of help.[magalir-avai-charter]
What the chronicle can do, here, is mark the shape. The post-2009 decade and a half is, in the public record, a decade in which the dignity of the inquiry has been carried, structurally, by women. The Tamil archive that does not record this is not the Tamil archive. The chronicle records it.
